Pairing the latest slim PS5 models with Modern Warfare 3 could prove to be a clever strategy to divert the attention of prospective buyers away from the irksome $30 accessory fee for a vertical stand.

Sony is gearing up to boost the sales of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 on its consoles, and its latest move is proof of that. The Japanese console giant is set to launch a PlayStation 5 bundle featuring the much-anticipated Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.
However, there’s a twist in the tale. While Sony has confirmed the release of the Modern Warfare 3 PlayStation 5 console bundle, it has remained tight-lipped about the specifics of the console included in the bundle. Just a day prior, Sony unveiled a new, slimmer PS5 design, which comes in two variants.
One is the standard slim PS5 with a Blu-ray disc drive priced at $499, and the other is a Digital Edition without a disc drive retailing at $449. This ambiguity has led to speculation. Is Sony using the Modern Warfare 3 bundle to clear out stock of the original model to pave the way for the slimmer one? Or is it trying to get the sales of the slim PS5 variants moving?
Sony’s push for Modern Warfare 3 doesn’t stop there. The company recently sent out emails to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 users, urging them to pre-order the upcoming Activision title and incentivizing them with an exclusive Operator Pack for Modern Warfare 3, featuring Elodie “Lockpick” Micheaux.
The Lockpick Operator Pack, a timed PlayStation exclusive DLC for Modern Warfare 3, boasts the Van Goated Lockpick Operator Skin, the AMRican Gothic Weapon Blueprint, and the Starry Knife Melee Weapon Blueprint.
Those who pre-order Modern Warfare 3 through the PlayStation Store will receive the Lockpick Operator Pack when the game launches, but this DLC will remain exclusive to PlayStation until November 9.
Sony’s relationship with Activision has been fruitful, with PlayStation owners often receiving a slew of exclusive content, ranging from in-game bundles to exclusive game modes and early access to public tests.
The first of the two Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer beta weekends, exclusively available on PS4 and PS5, is a testament to this partnership.
As Microsoft inches closer to finalizing its acquisition of Activision, Sony is well aware that the days of exclusivity are numbered. This might be the reason behind Sony’s aggressive marketing strategy for Modern Warfare 3. It’s pulling out all the stops, leveraging the Call of Duty brand to its fullest for as long as it can.

The Modern Warfare 3 PlayStation 5 console bundle will be available alongside the game’s release on November 10.
