These are some of the most outstanding boss fights in the Borderlands franchise.

One of the best things about the Borderlands franchise is its plethora of boss fights. With each game featuring a mix of regular and raid bosses, there’s an incredible amount of variety, and it can be hard to pin down just a few as the best.
Players will face off against bandits, beasts, and all sorts of alien creatures, each providing their own unique challenge. These particular boss fights stand out thanks to their original design, and memorable battles – players will likely still be thinking about them in years to come. Here are some of the best boss fights in the Borderlands franchise.
Gortys vs The Traveller

While the battle against The Traveller in Tales from The Borderlands isn’t a traditional Borderlands boss battle, it still served as an amazing conclusion to the game. During the battle, players get to pilot a giant Gortys, using the team they’ve put together throughout the game.
Right before the fight, the player can recruit certain characters, depending on whether or not they’ve accomplished various goals throughout the game. This feels really rewarding for players who have played smart, and a bit punishing for players who were more reckless with their actions. Each character the player brings has their own personalized attack that they can make Gortys do, which adds a unique touch to each player’s battle.
Killavolt

Killavolt is one of the first real jumps in difficulty players will come across in Borderlands 3. This memorable boss battle takes place on an electrified dance floor, which Killavolt uses to attack the player! However, whilst this boss has some pretty cool attacks, what makes it most memorable is the atmosphere and theme. The music is incredibly catchy, and the fight’s arena is one of the most unique settings in the game. The Killavolt fight is Borderlands 3 at its best.
This boss fight was bugged for the game’s first few weeks, meaning Killavolt’s attacks would layer upon each other. This made him impossibly difficult to deal with, and he gained more than a few enemies as a result. Luckily, the fight is working as intended now, and players can enjoy the full experience without issue.
Aurelia Hammerlock

Aurelia is one of the more unique boss fights in the Borderlands franchise – it’s one of the few times the player gets to go up against another capable Vault Hunter such as themselves. What makes Aurelia’s boss fight stand out the most is how visually stunning it is. She makes constant use of her ice attacks, which make a staggering contrast against the dark environment of the Jakob’s Estate.
Players of Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel will notice that Aurelia makes use of some of her skills from that game, and players can finally experience what it was like for the bandits having to face her. Whilst it’s unfortunate to be pitted against such a fantastic character, Aurelia received a fitting end.
3BNK3R

The BNK3R is just undeniably cool. In Borderlands 2, players are led to believe they’re raiding a bunker to reach Angel, when, in fact, it’s revealed that the bunker is actually a BNK3R bot. This flying robot is incredibly deadly, equipped with mortars and auto cannons.
Everything about the boss fight is epic – the sound design, the setting, and, of course, the boss itself. The fight is absolutely chaotic, and players will need to dodge the BNK3R’s ranged attacks, all whilst trying to land sniper shots of their own. BNK3R is a feat in boss design, and one of the most memorable in the entire franchise.
Pain and Terror

Pain and Terror are arguably one of the most memorable boss fights from Borderlands 3. The boss fight itself is an incredible set-piece, located in an epic arena, where the player must face off against this duo and the Agonizer 3,000. Everything about this fight is memorable – the giant, mechanized saw blades, the heated floors, and even a spinning chainsaw! Players will have to duck and dive across the arena whilst narrowly avoiding this monstrosity’s attacks, all whilst the crowd cheers them on.
To add an extra layer of excitement to this fight, the context makes it all the more tense – players must defeat the duo in order to rescue Tannis, who has found herself captured. The Pain and Terror boss fight encapsulates everything great about Borderlands 3. With the game now available on Nintendo Switch, even more players can experience the thrill of battling Pain and Terror.
The Warrior

Whilst the final boss of Borderlands 2 wasn’t particularly challenging, the Warrior is an absolute spectacle, and an utter treat to battle. The Warrior is unique in the fact that it takes advantage of its environment, by throwing rocks at the player and making the lava rise whenever it retreats back into it.
At this point in the game, the player is likely the biggest badass on the planet, and this boss battle certainly helps them feel like it. Even though it can be taken down pretty easily, especially compared to the other Guardians, it’s one of the most fun fights in the Borderlands franchise.
