With 2024 looking to top the massive game line-up of 2023, the year is starting off strong with some major launches happening in these early months.

Coming off the heels of one of the best years for quality games in recent memory, 2024 has a high bar to clear when it comes to delivering games to players on a similar level. However, the year is starting off on the right foot with several massive titles launching in quick succession over the first couple of months of 2024. Two of these titles are even launching on the same day, making the simultaneous release of Persona 3 Reload and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League on February 2 an important early start for the video game industry in the new year.
As the industry looks to continue the momentum from last year into 2024, it’s going to need some heavy hitters to release early to set the tone for the year to come. Luckily, it’s looking like Persona 3 Reload and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League could be the double dose needed to kick the year off right. February 2 will be a great day for a variety of players since these two titles represent a solid cross-section of the larger gaming community, with Persona 3 Reload being a JRPG and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League being a co-op action-shooter, meaning a diverse group of players will have something to look forward to.

What to Know About Persona 3 Reload
Of these two titles releasing on February 2, Persona 3 Reload has a lot less mystery surrounding it since the game is a remake of the classic Persona 3 title that established the modern formula Persona games follow today. What makes this remake so exciting is that it overhauls many of the outdated elements of the original release by introducing mechanics present in recent entries like Persona 5 Royal, while still remaining faithful to the original. While there has been some controversy surrounding Persona 3 Reload‘s lack of content featured in other releases of the game, it looks to be expanding the original game’s content enough to feel like a robust experience.
Persona 3 Reload follows the story of SEES, the Special Extracurricular Execution Squad, as they battle shadows using their Personas to uncover the mystery of the Dark Hour and Tartarus. The game will feature the series’ classic calendar system that allows players to live out their daily lives in-game one day at a time, balancing JRPG dungeon crawling with life sim elements. In addition to these returning elements, Persona 3 Reload is also set to feature new mechanics like the Shift and Theurgy systems to improve combat, as well as new voice acting and fully-voiced Social Link rank-up scenes.
What to Know About Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League
In contrast to Persona 3 Reload, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is an entirely different beast, being a co-op third-person shooter from Rocksteady Studios of Batman Arkham series fame. The game faced some criticism from interested fans last year after its gameplay reveal showcased generic-looking shooter combat and live-service elements that had fans concerned about the game’s quality. Following this showcase, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was delayed from its May 2023 launch to February 2, 2024, to give the team time to respond to these critiques before release.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League takes place in a version of Metropolis where the villain Brainiac has brainwashed citizens, including the Justice League, and it’s up to the titular Task Force X to stop them. Players will be able to play as one of four characters at launch, including Harley Quinn, Deadshot, King Shark, and Captain Boomerang, but recent leaks suggest more characters will be added via DLC, with Deathstroke mentioned in the leak. Each character has their own unique abilities, and solo players can try each one out by swapping characters on the fly while the others are controlled by AI.
