Dead by Daylight releases the new Lights Out Modifier, which introduces some major gameplay changes, and also releases new outfits.

Dead by Daylight has launched Lights Out, a limited-time Modifier that introduces major gameplay changes. Dead by Daylight has also confirmed that additional Modifiers are likely coming in the future.
Dead by Daylight first announced the Lights Out Modifier in January, revealing that the new mode would make Dead by Daylight‘s maps significantly darker. The development team did not offer any additional details during the Modifier’s initial reveal, but now that Lights Out has officially launched, Dead by Daylight has explained exactly what players can expect.
In addition to making maps much darker, Dead by Daylight‘s Lights Out Modifier removes perks, items, add-ons, and offerings. Survivors’ scratch marks and the Killer’s terror radius are also removed. Additionally, Lights Out features more chests with better items, which spawn across the four maps included in the mode: Mount Ormond Resort, Treatment Theatre, Family Residence, and The Shattered Square. Dead by Daylight‘s newest update also adds a new Lights Out-specific Event Tome, which features six challenges for players to complete. In exchange for completing the challenges, players are rewarded with exclusive player card customizations and more. Furthermore, following Dead by Daylight‘s recent addition of Alan Wake, the new update added two more outfits from the popular franchise: Rose Marigold, a Legendary tier outfit, and Bright Falls, a Very Rare tier outfit.
Dead by Daylight’s Lights Out Modifier
- Makes maps significantly darker
- Removes perks, items, add-ons, and offerings
- Removes scratch marks and terror radius
- More chests spawn with better items
- Takes place on Mount Ormond Resort, Treatment Theatre, Family Residence, and The Shattered Square
Dead by Daylight‘s blog that covers the update seems to suggest that additional Modifiers are coming sometime in the future. A previous survey issued to Dead by Daylight players may have revealed what these Modifiers will be. The survey included interesting game mode ideas, such as a 5v5 mode where two teams of 4 Survivors and 1 Killer fight to control generators and a swapped perspective mode where Killers play in third person while Survivors play in first person. The Lights Out Modifier was included in this survey as well, so it seems likely that the survey’s other modifiers are possible candidates for future additions.

Fans can expect more additions this year thanks to the reveal of Dead by Daylight‘s 2024 roadmap. It confirms that various Killers and perks will be tweaked, and numerous quality-of-life and gameplay adjustments will be implemented.
There has been additional speculation on what might come to Dead by Daylight in 2024. It’s likely that the game will receive new Survivors and Killers during 2024, although Behaviour Interactive has yet to confirm who they will be. Fans can also look forward to the Dead by Daylight spinoff The Casting of Frank Stone, a single-player game developed by Supermassive Games.
