Destiny 2 Into The Light ‘Challenge’ is the Ultimate Dare

Games Gaming News

It was only a matter of time until players stepped up to overcome an impossible challenge set in place by Destiny 2’s new Into The Light update.

Destiny 2’s Into The Light update has added several new features to the game to hold fans over until The Final Shape’s delayed release, which is now coming on June 4, 2024. The Into The Light update namely reintroduces several meta weapons that were previously sunset, as well as a new wave-based defense game mode, Onslaught.

In Destiny 2’s new Onslaught game mode, players can face anywhere from 10 to 50 waves of enemies while simultaneously defending an objective as their main goal. This activity will naturally get harder as players progress up to wave 50, though there are two distinct difficulties that players can choose from that will affect the difficulty of the activity immediately from the first wave onward. The harder of these two difficulties, Legend mode, is said to be impossible for players to complete solo. However, only time will tell if this is truly the case.

Destiny 2’s Solo Community Shouldn’t be Underestimated

When it comes to overcoming seemingly impossible in-game challenges, this is something that certain players from Destiny 2’s community have established a reputation for doing by now. Not only have players been defying all odds to solo Raids in Destiny 2, but players have taken this a step further by completing these activities without dying, setting competitive speedrunning world records, and oftentimes both.

While this is only being done by a portion of Destiny 2’s massive community, the fact that it’s happening at all is truly a testament that the community should never be underestimated to achieve the impossible. Consequently, when some of the developers for Destiny 2 said that the Legend difficulty for the new Onslaught game mode can’t be done solo, this may or may not have been an intentional dare for Destiny 2’s community to step up to the challenge.

Our running theory is that it’s impossible.

It was Only a Matter of Time Before Destiny 2 Players Solo Onslaught’s Legend Difficulty

The Legend difficulty for Destiny 2’s new Onslaught game mode is admittedly no walk in the park, as is evident by a competition Bungie recently held for the community, over which three-player fireteams would be the first to complete all 50 Onslaught waves on this difficulty. This competition has since ended, making way for a new unofficial competition over which players will be the first to accomplish this task as a solo fireteam.

According to members of Destiny 2’s development studio, completing Onslaught solo on the Legend difficulty is impossible. Specifically, around the 42-minute mark of the first Into The Light Developer Livestream, Senior Social Media Manager, Andy Salisbury, said “So everyone out there that wants to really challenge themselves, maybe attempt to solo all 50 waves. I think the theory is – our running theory is that it’s impossible.” After this comment, other members of Bungie can be heard weighing in on the debate, some agreeing and some disagreeing with this statement.

Note:

Destiny 2 player by the in-game name of Xeneris has already completed all 50 waves of Onslaught on Legend difficulty solo , making them the first player in the world to complete this challenge, and proving that it is indeed possible.

Given the community’s track record for soloing endgame content in Destiny 2, this statement ultimately comes off as more of a dare than a fact. With one player having already overcome the impossible, this challenge was begging players to complete it from the very start. So whether it took days, months, or years for players to complete this challenge, it was always only a matter of when, and not if, it would happen.
