Warhammer Skulls 2024, has arrived, offering a huge array of announcements for brand-new games as well as ongoing ones. During the presentation, hosted by actor Rahul Kohli, we got a new look at one of the most-anticipated action games of the year–Space Marine 2–and got more information on games like Darktide, Speed Freeks, and Vermintide 2. We also saw the return of one of the best turn-based tactics games in the Warhammer series, as well as plenty more surprises for fans of practically every genre. Here are all the game announcements from Warhammer Skulls 2024.
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2
The biggest game of the showcase continues to look extremely impressive, and in the latest presentation, we got a look at Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2’s PvE and PvP multiplayer offerings. The game features a three-person cooperative mode that will see you and two friends slaughtering hordes of xenos, and you can choose from six different classes to fit your playstyle. If things take a more competitive turn, you can move to PvP, where three 6v6 multiplayer modes see the Space Marines and Chaos Marines battle it out in a fight to the death–and bragging rights.
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 launches for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC on September 9.
Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus II
One of the very biggest announcements from Warhammer Skulls 2024 was Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus II. This sequel will feature two full campaigns focusing on the opposing Adeptus Mechanicus and Vargard Nefersha factions. The turn-based tactical game will make use of environmental mechanics to add more strategic challenge to its combat, and while it doesn’t have a release date yet, Mechanicus II will be available on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC. It is developed by Bulwark Studios, just like the first game.
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine VR — Defenders of Avarax
If third-person hack-and-shoot action isn’t enough for you, Zero Latency has something else that might appeal to your inner Space Marine. Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine VR — Defenders of Avarax is coming in October. The experience will be exclusive to Zero Latency VR physical locations around the world. There are currently 93 to choose from across 26 countries, so you may very well have the chance to put the VR headset on and blast away any pathetic enemies of the Imperium.
Warhammer 40,000: Speed Freeks
The Warhammer 40,000 universe’s take on something like Twisted Metal, Speed Freeks is shaping up to be a high-octane car-combat game with plenty of attitude. In the presentation, we see a vehicle get lifted up into the air and destroyed in its entirety, rendering the driver a pathetic puddle of goo. In the Mad Max tradition, you’ll be racing through a wasteland and firing your powerful weapons at the other drivers, and if you want to get a sense of how Speed Freeks works, you can play the beta right now.
Total War: Warhammer III
A new trailer was shown for Total War: Warhammer III during the showcase, giving us a look at the free legendary hero Karanak. A man mentions in a monologue that he has been on the run, “fleeing through time” in both the past and the future, but hellhounds seem to have entered his psyche. Karanak, a terrifying three-headed hound, looks to be one formidable hero, if you can really call him a hero. There’s no date yet for Karanak’s release, but Total War: Warhammer III is available now on PC.
Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader
Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader is like Baldur’s Gate for evil people who show no remorse toward their enemies, and if you are ready to experience even more of that grimdark take on role-playing games, you’re in for a treat. Rogue Trader’s Void Shadows DLC is arriving on August 8. It appears many of the horrific enemies you’ll face in the DLC will be on the Voidship itself, which serves as your base of operations and is, typically, a safe haven against the agents of chaos and corruption.
Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun
The boomer-shooter Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun delivers a fast-paced and incredibly fun take on first-person Warhammer combat, and we’re getting even more of it with the Forges of Corruption DLC. The new missions see you needing to “descend into the depths” of a massive forge complex as you, naturally, purge the worthless heretics from existence. Alongside new areas and enemies, Forges of Corruption features powerful new weapons like the missile launcher and the multi-melter. There’s also a new free horde mode, which doesn’t require an extra purchase. Forges of Corruption arrives first to PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC on June 18, with a Switch release coming later.
Warhammer: Vermintide 2
Beginning today to celebrate Warhammer Skulls, a new in-game Skulls Throne event is available, and on May 30, an alpha will follow, delivering PvP to Vermintide 2 for the first time. It’ll be available on PC, and Fatshark says the full release of the mode will follow later this year. A new quality-of-life update was also released today, offering bug fixes, new challenges, and new boons, among other enhancements.
Warhammer 40,000: Darktide
Fatshark’s other Warhammer game, Darktide, also got showcased during the presentation. We got a look at the upcoming free content update Secrets of the Machine God, which is coming June 25. It looks like it could add an element of espionage to the experience, if the narrative voiceover is any indication, and it will be available day and date across both PC and Xbox Series X|S.
Blood Bowl 3
Blood Bowl’s Season 5 arrives on June 11, bringing cross-platform play to the game for the first time. Additionally, the season will introduce the Necromantic Horror faction, and while it will still be several months until Halloween, it looks to add a dose of playful–as playful as Warhammer can be, anyway–scares to the very gory sports game.
World of Tanks: Modern Armor
World of Tanks: Modern Armor is dedicated primarily to authentic war machines, but there’s always room for something a little more fantastical. The game is adding the 40K tank Rogal Dorn across PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. See how the enemies of the Imperium–or some random person who doesn’t know anything about Warhammer–fares against the all-powerful strikes of the emperor.
Warhammer: The Horus Heresy — Legions
Available on iOS, Android, and PC, Warhammer: The Horus Heresy — Legions has received a new Inferno expansion. The expansion focuses on the Space Wolves, and there are two other factions that will be joining the game a little further down the line. There is a time-limited bundle containing a bunch of cards to get you on your way during the expansion’s opening weekend.
Warhammer 40,000: Warpforge
If you want a little extra sci-fi with your Warhammer card games, you’ll be happy to know that Warhammer 40,000: Warpforge also got an update to celebrate Warhammer Skulls. The Adepta Sororitas faction is now available in the game–you might be familiar with the group if you’ve spent any time playing Rogue Trader. They’re also known as the Battle Sisters, and their tremendous aptitude for combat makes that a worthy name.
Talisman Digital Edition
A brand-new version of the digital board game Talisman Digital Edition is currently in the works at Nomad Games. It’s based on the game’s upcoming 5th Edition from Avalon Hill, and to celebrate the development announcement, the current version of Talisman Digital Edition is now free across both PC and mobile platforms.
