Destiny 2 Confirms Massive File Size for The Final Shape

Games Gaming News

With release of Destiny 2‘s climactic and long-awaited Final Shape expansion less than a week away, Bungie has revealed that the expansion will be boasting some surprisingly large file sizes across all platforms. Many Destiny 2 fans eager to participate in the raid race this year should certainly make storage preparations ahead of time, as the new raid coming with The Final Shape is set to release on June 7th – giving raid players just three days to play through the available campaign content and prepare their loadouts.

It’s been a packed week for fans of Destiny 2, with The Final Shape expansion suffering a significant leak after it was accidentally made available early through Sony’s Playstation cloud streaming service. This leak resulted in tons of upcoming content, including weapons and raid gear, various story details, and even season pass rewards from Destiny 2‘s first episode, being revealed to fans early. While Bungie did warn players of the rampant spoilers spreading around the internet in this week’s TWID post, its most recent blog entry also gave fans an official preview of the new artifact coming with the expansion, as well as what players should expect in terms of downtime prior to The Final Shape‘s release.

In addition to this information, Bungie also revealed the download sizes of Destiny 2‘s Final Shape expansion across all platforms. As it turns out, the expansion requires around a whooping 150 gigabytes of storage space across most platforms. Players that are looking to preload the expansion and have it ready to play on release should expect to require about 143.81 GB on PlayStation 5, 129.31 GB on PlayStation 4, 139.52 GB on Xbox One, 165.82 on Xbox Series X/S, and 156.22 GB on the Microsoft Store. PC players will need a lot more space available though, with Steam users requiring roughly 299.70 GB free and Epic users needing 279.66 GB to preload.

Luckily, players won’t need to worry about Destiny 2 clogging up half a drive permanently after The Final Shape goes live. For Destiny 2 fans playing on PC, services such as Steam essentially allow both the current and upcoming versions of the game to be installed simultaneously, though the old version of the game will be replaced once The Final Shape launches, meaning the final file size will shrink down to a much more comfortable capacity.

Still, Destiny 2‘s Final Shape expansion will bring a ton of new content to the table, and the game’s overall file size will still see a substantial net increase with the expansion. The Final Shape represents the conclusion to a 10-year saga spanning two separate games and will see players facing their greatest challenge yet upon the expansion’s release on June 4th.
