Depersonalization is now available on PC Game Pass.

PC Game Pass has added Depersonalization to its ever-expanding content catalog. This is the fifth title to reach PC Game Pass in June 2024.
Developed by Chinese studio MeowNature, Depersonalization is a 2D RPG that was originally released as a Steam Early Access title in December 2022. It is heavily inspired by the Call of Cthulhu tabletop game based on the eponymous short story by cosmic horror pioneer H.P. Lovecraft. Depersonalization was met with a warm reception from RPG aficionados, as underlined by the fact that it presently boasts nearly 3,500 “Very Positive” user reviews on Steam.
Just ahead of its 18-month anniversary, Depersonalization found its way to PC Game Pass, reaching the service on June 12. The version of the RPG that is now available to Microsoft’s subscribers appears to be identical to its latest Steam build, which rolled out in late May 2024. Although the project is still in early access, its Xbox app listing makes no mention of the Game Preview program that is commonly used for delivering work-in-progress titles to PC Game Pass members. It remains to be seen whether that will have any implications for the rate of updates that Microsoft’s subscribers can expect from the RPG moving forward.

While its story and setting are largely based on Call of Cthulhu, the game’s pixel art aesthetic has been heavily inspired by anime media. This makes Depersonalization a fairly distinct package even beyond the realm of Lovecraftian RPGs. And though a single playthrough is estimated to only take around six hours, the game features a multitude of story choices that lead to branching narratives, thus promising to deliver a fairly high degree of replay value.

Three more games are confirmed to be coming to the XGP library before month’s end, starting with WW1 FPS Isonzo and survival horror The Callisto Protocol, both of which will arrive on June 13. The Chinese Room’s psychological horror Still Wakes the Deep is then scheduled to have a day-one release on the service five days later.
In the meantime, five titles will leave the XGP catalog on June 15, with that next wave of departures comprising High On Life, Rune Factory 4 Special, Bramble: The Mountain King, Spacelines from the Far Out, and The Bookwalker: Thief of Tales. Microsoft is expected to announce the second wave of June 2024 Xbox Game Pass additions in the days ahead.
