How to Prepare for the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC

To access the content in the Elden Ring DLC: Shadow of the Erdtree, players must first defeat two specific bosses in the main game. A warp gate acts as the portal between the Lands Between and the Land of Shadow, and only opens after the second boss is defeated.
Tarnished eager to dive into Shadow of the Erdtree should ensure their character is prepared for the DLC release. Besides meeting the prerequisites to access the new content, it’s advisable to gather all useful materials from the base game beforehand.
How to Start the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC in Elden Ring

Players can only access the content in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree after beating Starscourge Radahn and Mohg, Lord of Blood in the base game. Once Mohg is defeated, interact with the withered arm hanging from the large, white cocoon in Mohg’s arena. This withered arm will serve as a warp gate between the main game map and the DLC map.
Note: This requirement must be met to unlock the DLC, and currently, there is no way to skip the main story and jump directly into the new content.
Where to Find Starscourge Radahn

Starscourge Radahn’s boss fight in Elden Ring only unlocks after Radahn’s Festival is triggered at Redmane Castle in Caelid. There are two ways to start the Festival:
- Use the Grand Lift of Dectus to reach the Altus Plateau .
- Hear about the Festival from Preceptor Seluvis during Ranni the Witch ‘s quest chain.
If either of these conditions are met, the festival will start, and players will be able to visit Redmane Castle to fight Radahn.
Tip: Reaching the boss arena in Redmane Castle before the Festival will trigger the Crucible Knight & Misbegotten Warrior duo boss fight. Completing this encounter is the only way to obtain the Ruins Greatsword .
Where to Find Mohg, Lord of Blood

Mohg can be found in the Dynasty Mausoleum in Mohgwyn Palace. There are two ways to reach this place:
- Consecrated Snowfield Teleporter: Players will first need to gather two parts of the Haligtree Secret Medallion from Liurnia of the Lakes and the Mountaintops of the Giants. Then, use the Medallion at the Grand Lift of Rold to take them to the Consecrated Snowfield. Once here, find the teleporter along the western edge of the field to reach Mohgwyn Palace .
- White Mask Varre’s Questline: By progressing through Varre’s questline, players will naturally obtain the Pureblood Knight’s Medal, which will directly teleport them to Mohg’s boss arena in Mohgwyn Palace.
WARNING! Mohg, Lord of Blood and Mohg, the Omen are two different encounters. Mohn, the Omen is found in the Cathedral of the Forsaken near the Forsaken Depths Site of Grace, whereas Mohg, Lord of Blood is found in Mohgwyn Palace. Defeating Mohg, the Omen has no bearing on whether or not you can enter the DLC.
How to Prepare for the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC

Shadow of the Erdtree content is balanced around a late-game character, meaning anyone below level 100 may find it challenging. The new weapons’ stat requirements will likely be high, necessitating a high base level. While Soulsborne veterans are free to attempt a harder run, reaching level 120 is recommended for a more comfortable experience for regular players.
To prepare for Shadow of the Erdtree, here are some recommendations:
- Defeat Starscourge Radahn (Required).
- Defeat Mohg, Lord of Blood (Required).
- Reach level 120-150.
- Gather as many Larval Tear s as possible.
- Upgrade Flasks using Sacred Tear s and Golden Seed s.
- Gather all Ball Bearings.
