Fortnite’s Metallica Concert Is Giving Destiny 2 Fans Serious Witness Vibes
Destiny 2 and Fortnite players noticed some raid boss similarities during the recent Fortnite x Metallica crossover concert.

Destiny 2 players seemed to feel some déjà vu after seeing the climactic part of the Fortnite and Metallica crossover event. A special encounter that took place during Metallica’s in-game concert reminded many Destiny 2 players of the game’s latest raid, which debuted alongside The Final Shape, the current Destiny 2 expansion.
Destiny 2 and Fortnite fans are both riding high after major launch events in recent weeks. Despite a major delay and anxiety in the community over the game’s troubles, Bungie appeared to successfully cap off the first saga of its main narrative with The Final Shape, culminating in the Salvation’s Edge raid against The Witness, a villain behind most of the Destiny universe’s troubles. Meanwhile, Fortnite players gained a chance to interact with globally famous rock band Metallica via the Metallica: Fuel. Fire. Fury crossover, which included a massive live concert with Fortnite versions of the band members. The Fortnite Metallica concert event was also participatory in nature, as it included a boss fight against the Master of Puppets, a massive supernatural creature.
That boss fight gave experienced Destiny 2 player RuKo1998 a familiar feeling, as the fight itself seemed superficially quite similar to the final encounter of the Salvation’s Edge raid. The encounter pits a raid team of Guardians against The Witness itself in a fight for the fate of all reality.
Fortnite Metallica Concert Boss Reminds Destiny 2 Players of The Witness
In a video clip from Fortnite shared with the Destiny 2 subreddit, RuKo1998 highlighted a phase from the Master of Puppets boss encounter, which kicked off during the Metallica concert. In it, players are tasked with climbing atop floating platforms suspended in a dark, stormy sky. Menacing them in the distance is the Master of Puppets, a massive, multi-armed monster that attacks with many hands shooting magical effects and with parts of its body that players can target. The design of the Master of Puppets reminded many Destiny 2 players of the Witness encounter, which also features numerous hands in keeping with the horror inspirations of The Final Shape aesthetic.

While some fellow Destiny 2 players – particularly those unfamiliar with Fortnite – were taken aback by the actual presence of Metallica in the game, others were amused at the funny coincidence of two rather similar boss characters appearing in two major live service games barely weeks apart. Some joked that the Master of Puppets was actually The Witness itself and that the Metallica concert was a secret extension of the 2022 Fortnite and Destiny 2 crossover, which saw Fortnite-inspired skins enter the Destiny 2 armor gallery and Destiny 2 characters like Ikora Rey, the Exo Stranger, and Commander Zavala take a seat on the Battle Bus.
The entertaining coincidence highlights how much crossover some live service games have. Though both Fortnite and Destiny 2 demand a fairly significant amount of time and effort from their players, the fact that an event in one game can remind players of other shows that there’s a significant population of players enjoying both simultaneously.
