Skull and Bones is coming to Steam on August 22.

Ubisoft has announced that Skull and Bones will finally be available on Steam on August 22. At launch, the game arrived on PC via Epic Store, Ubisoft Connect, and Amazon Luna, and now Steam players can add Skull and Bones to their wishlist before its release next month.

Skull and Bones was one of Ubisoft’s big promises in recent years. Initially intended as a spin-off of Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, it soon became a standalone title. Skull and Bones began development in 2013 and was announced in 2017, with a release date set for 2018. After numerous delays, trailers, and buzzwords like “the world’s first quadruple-A game,” Skull and Bones was finally released to a lukewarm reception. Many players compared the pirate-themed game to Ubisoft’s own Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, the original inspiration. Ironically, after Skull and Bones was released, Black Flag saw an exponential increase in its player base.

Ubisoft continues its strategy of expanding the reach of its games by bringing them to Steam sometime after their initial release on the company’s own store. As announced on Twitter, Skull and Bones will officially launch on Steam on August 22. The game already has a page on the platform for players who want to add it to their wishlist. The price has not been disclosed, but if it’s consistent with other platforms, Skull and Bones will likely carry a $70 price tag on Steam.

When is the Skull and Bones Steam Release Date?

Skull and Bones will launch on Steam on August 22.

Skull and Bones was originally released in February 2024, meaning it’s arriving on Steam just six months after its debut. The time it takes for Ubisoft’s titles to make their way to Valve’s platform is getting shorter. Between 2019 and 2022, Ubisoft stopped bringing games to Steam. The French publisher returned to Steam at the end of 2022 with Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, which was originally released in 2020. Since then, only select Ubisoft titles have been released on Steam, though rarely on day one.

A week after its launch, Skull and Bones reportedly had 850,000 players across all platforms, divided between those who purchased the game and participants in the free trial. Once Skull and Bones is released on Steam, the player count can be tracked on sites such as SteamDB, and gamers can see the impact that Valve’s platform has on a title. Ubisoft has stated that it will release a new season for the game every 12 weeks. Season 2 launched on May 28, and Season 3 of Skull and Bones has already been announced and is expected to arrive between September and October.
