Mod support is now live for Doom Eternal on Steam, with a Microsoft Store version coming soon.

Doom Eternal has officially received mod support on Steam, with a Microsoft Store version of the service to be released soon. Before now, Doom Eternal modders did not have any official support, and this new feature may lead to an increasingly large number of amazing mods for the popular FPS.
Released in 2020, Doom Eternal gained positive reviews, achieving an average score of 89 on OpenCritic. The game’s success led to receiving updates for a long time, but most fans will likely be surprised to discover that id Software has not stopped supporting Doom Eternal just yet.
Now, Bethesda has announced during QuakeCon 2024 that Doom Eternal is finally receiving mod support with the game’s Update 6.66 Rev 3, which is already live on Steam. By using the new service, gamers will be able to browse, download, and play officially sanctioned Doom Eternal mods. Bethesda also revealed that a Microsoft Store version of this new feature is in the works, and will be out “soon.” Unfortunately, there is no mention of this new feature being available on consoles in the future, which could mean that it will be strictly for PC players.
Doom Eternal Finally Has Official Mod Support on Steam

To gain access to Doom Eternal’s mod preview, Steam gamers should opt in to the service, which they can do by right-clicking on Doom Eternal in their Steam Library, picking properties, then “Betas,” and “pc-mod-preview.” Mods will be published using a service called idStudio Beta, which can also be accessed via Steam. Other mods which are not uploaded to the service will not be available in the popular FPS game, though. One relevant detail about idStudio Beta is that the service is confirmed for Steam, but there’s no mention that this feature will be available on the Microsoft Store in the future.
QuakeCon is the most exciting time of the year for fans of id Software’s games, and this new update is not the only surprise unveiled during the event, which is currently happening in Grapevine, Texas. Earlier this week, Bethesda released the Doom + Doom 2 remaster. This enhanced release of the two classic Doom games comes with new quality-of-life features, supports 4K resolution, 120 FPS, and it includes deathmatch and co-op for up to 16 gamers. Also, the package comes with several expansions and MegaWads and more Deathmatch maps, and it’s available for free for Xbox Game Pass subscribers on both consoles and PC.
