Call of Duty Is Giving Away Free Battle Passes for Season 6, but There’s a Catch

Some Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 players are receiving a free Season 6 Battle Pass as an incentive to return to the game.

Some Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 players are being given a free Battle Pass for the game’s latest season, but it looks like Activision is only giving them away to users who haven’t logged into the shooter for an extended period of time. Season 6 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 kicked off on September 18, and it looks like Activision is attempting to go out with a bang by tempting older players back before the launch of Black Ops 6 in October.

While it will be the game’s final season, developer Sledgehammer Games hasn’t toned down the content for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3’s Season 6 patch. For fans jumping into the massive new content update, there’s a plethora of new Shipment variants, weapons, and a fresh 6v6 multiplayer map known as Drive Thru. With Halloween on the horizon, Call of Duty fans can also check out the spooky Haunting event, which is now live in both Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone. From horrifying cosmetic bundles to jump-scare-filled modes, the final season is not for the faint-hearted.

If Call of Duty’s Haunting event wasn’t enough to get players back into Modern Warfare 3, Activision is apparently giving away free codes for the game’s Season 6 Battle Pass, which can also be leveled up in Warzone. Unfortunately, there’s nothing players can do to nab themselves a code from the publisher, as users are taking to social media to report that they are being emailed at random with free codes to redeem.

Call of Duty Players Receive Free Season 6 Battle Pass

Reddit user Eymber93 is just one of the users who has reportedly received a free Battle Pass for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, saying that they hadn’t played Season 5 “at all” and had not played much of Season 4. While the email may come across like a fake spam message, the user noted that they redeemed the code on Activision’s website and found the Battle Pass when they next logged into Modern Warfare 3. They then speculated that due to the prolonged period of time it had been since they last played, Activision was likely attempting to draw them back into the game with a free gift.

Unfortunately, other users haven’t been so lucky. While there have been some players who have also received a free Battle Pass, much of the community is angry that they have had no email from Activision, despite also not playing for an extended period of time. One Twitter user even states that they haven’t played since Season 1, but still haven’t received a free code from Activision.

While it’s not unheard of for publishers to give away free Battle Pass codes (Fortnite and Apex Legends have both done similar in the past), it is rare for Call of Duty to offer free codes. But with the launch of Black Ops 6 on the horizon, there’s a strong chance that Activision is aiming to get players back into the groove and hopefully pre-order the next Call of Duty title.
