Discord is testing a new “ICYMI” feature for missed messages, offering recaps users can customize and disable.

Discord is gearing up to roll out a brand-new feature for the popular messaging app, featuring recaps of missed messages allowing users to quickly catch up. Since Discord burst onto the scene in 2015, the platform has grown to become one of the most popular communal hubs and messaging apps on the internet. The platform reportedly boasts over 600 million users and nearly 200 million active users each month, with Discord continuing to be brought to new devices. Now, a major quality-of-life feature is on the way soon for Discord.
Discord has rolled out plenty of updates since its launch, looking to both expand its breadth within the gaming community and improve its functionality. Discord has added everything from voice calling and screen-sharing to integration with games offering special rewards, both on Discord and within games like Honkai: Star Rail and World of Warcraft. Discord’s new features have also made using the platform on consoles even easier, with users on Xbox and PlayStation consoles easily able to join calls and chat with friends. However, a new feature looks to make the platform’s text chat more accessible.
Discord Reveals New “ICYMI” Missed Messages Feature
As reported by Dexerto, Discord is testing a new feature that would make catching up on missed messages far easier for users. The feature will reportedly introduce the “ICYMI” tab within its servers, allowing users to receive a recap of messages and events they may have missed in their servers. Users will be able to select which servers and channels they receive recaps for, as well as giving the option to fully disable the feature within their Discord settings. Discord is currently testing the new feature with a limited release on iOS devices.

Discord’s new recap feature looks to be a helpful tool for users looking to quickly catch up on their Discord messages. Many users on Apple devices who received the update have already praised Discord for the function, even being touted by popular streaming company OTK’s talent agency. Others have spoken positively about the update in comparison to Discord’s less well-received updates throughout recent months. Discord has not confirmed when the feature will fully release across all devices.
As Discord nears its tenth anniversary next year, a recent interview revealed more about the origins of the beloved chat platform. Discord co-creator Stanislav Vishnevskiy shared details about how Discord came into existence during a Famitsu interview, confirming that Final Fantasy 11 played a major part in the platform’s inception. Vishnevskiy also teased a potential collaboration with Final Fantasy 14 in the future, confirming himself to be a longtime player of the MMORPG. Discord continues to dominate as one of the internet’s most popular online platforms, even nearly a decade after its debut.
