Dynasty Warriors Origins Is Currently The Highest-Rated Game In The Series
Dynasty Warriors: Origins is now the highest-rated game in the series, sitting at a score of 80 on Metacritic.

Dynasty Warriors has had a bit of a mixed reputation over the years, labeled as a repetitive hack and slash by those from the outside, but very much loved and enjoyed by those already invested and familiar with the series. It also doesn’t help that a couple of the more recent games have been fairly divisive, but that doesn’t appear to be the case with the recently released Dynasty Warriors: Origins.
Reviews for the title were released earlier today – including our own – ahead of its January 17 release date later this week, and it seems as though the vast majority of critics enjoyed what they played quite a bit. While it’s nothing to write home about, Dynasty Warrior: Origins is sitting pretty comfortably at a Metacritic score of 80 at the time of writing.

Dynasty Warriors Origins Is The Series’ Highest-Rated Game On Metacritic

Like I said, it’s a very respectable score, but nothing absolutely staggering. However, as PushSquare and others have noted, this score actually means that Dynasty Warriors: Origins is now the highest-rated Dynasty Warriors game in the entire series. Games like Persona 5 Strikers and Hyrule Warriors – which were also developed by Omega Force – may have rated higher, but this is the first Dynasty Warriors game to have cracked the 80+ threshold.
Dynasty Warriors has rarely ever ventured into the 70s, usually landing with scores in the mid 60s, and the highest-rated Dynasty Warriors game before Origins came along was Dynasty Warriors 4, which released on the PS2 way back in 2003. That game’s sitting at a score of 78, and it’s taken Omega Force and Koei Tecmo over two decades to finally top it.
Hopefully, the series can use this game as a base and kick on to really great heights, as we’ll no doubt get a sequel in the future. In fact, producer and Omega Force president Tomohiko Sho has already stated that if a sequel gets made, he’d want it to star an all-new protagonist, so it sounds as though there are ideas rattling around in the heads of those at the studio. Let’s maybe get this one out of the way first though, eh?
