2K committed to a September 23 release date for Borderlands 4.

Borderlands 4 has a release date: September 23, 2025. 2K confirmed this key availability detail in a new trailer, which also offered a few new looks at Borderlands 4.
The fourth numbered entry in the Borderlands franchise was originally revealed at Gamescom in August 2024. On that occasion, 2K said that the game was targeting a 2025 debut.
The publisher has now replaced this launch window with a concrete release date, stating that Borderlands 4 will hit the market on September 23. This was revealed as part of the game’s latest trailer, which premiered during the February 12 PlayStation State of Play. The minute-long promo video also featured some new gameplay footage, which happens to be just as chaotic as what little 2K has previously shown of the looter shooter.
Borderlands 4 Is Getting a Full Gameplay Reveal Soon
In a prepared statement accompanying the State of Play trailer, 2K and Gearbox Software promised that fans will soon get a detailed look at Borderlands 4 in action, as its full-fledged gameplay reveal is scheduled for spring 2025. Given the game’s planned September release, this reveal will likely happen in the first half of the season rather than later—at least if 2K is planning a typical AAA marketing cycle. For reference, Borderlands 3 was treated to its full gameplay trailer at the start of May 2019, roughly four and a half months before hitting the store shelves.
In terms of platform availability, Borderlands 4 is set to have a simultaneous release on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC—via both Steam and the Epic Games Store. With 2K parent company Take-Two Interactive recently professing plans to support the Switch 2, a port for Nintendo‘s upcoming console could also be on the cards. No pricing details have yet been attached to the upcoming title, but given recent industry trends and 2K’s own track record, Borderlands 4 seems likely to debut at $69.99.
The Borderlands 3 sequel is being touted as the most ambitious entry in the looter shooter franchise to date. The game will introduce new traversal mechanics, ranging from double jumping and dodging to gliding and fixed-point grappling. A more intricate skill tree system will also be part of the package, together with a slightly different style of writing that’s expected to mark a departure from the series’ off-color humor. That’s in addition to a record number of unique weapons and a vast, semi-open world map.
