A new Fortnite tweet seemingly confirms that the Zapotron will be returning to OG on February 14.

The Zapotron, an iconic Fortnite weapon that was available in-game for a matter of minutes back in 2017, looks to finally be making its return as soon as tomorrow, February 14. Thanks to Fortnite OG, die-hard players can re-experience the magic of Epic Games‘ smash-hit Battle Royale in its original form. The mode rotates through Chapter 1 seasons periodically, giving fans the chance to check out some classic weapons and features that are no longer available in-game. Although that Zapotron was never originally included in Season 2, it looks like the weapon could be about to return.
After breaking records with Fortnite OG back in 2023, Epic Games confirmed it would be bringing the mode back permanently from December 6, 2024. Alongside the standard Battle Royale option, Fortnite players can now choose to jump into the OG mode and experience the game almost exactly how it was during Chapter 1. Fortnite OG launched with Chapter 1 Season 1, but rotated into Season 2 on January 31. The current season will come to an end on March 25, when (presumably) Season 3 will begin. With each season bringing back the original weapons, locations, and features, fans weren’t expecting the Zapotron to make a return, but it looks like that could become a reality in around 24 hours time.
Zapotron Returning to Fortnite OG on February 14
Back in January, a new rumor hinted at the return of Zapotron for Fortnite OG. The weapon, which hasn’t been seen in Battle Royale since 2017, was recently re-added to the game files with some updated values. While many believed this meant the weapon would be making its return, nobody knew for certain if this was an elaborate troll by Epic Games. Now, however, the return of the Zapotron looks to be practically confirmed. In a new post on Twitter, Epic Games said that if it gets 1 like on its post, the Zapotron will come back to Fortnite OG tomorrow, February 14. As of writing, the post has over 7,000 likes in less than 30 minutes, so it’s safe to assume the weapon will be making its triumphant return.

Prior to the launch of Fortnite‘s very first Chapter, the Zapotron was available in-game for a total of 30 minutes and was only used by a handful of players due to its short lifespan. The weapon originally used Energy Cells for ammunition, but a recent tweet from leaker HYPEX suggests that won’t be the case when the Zapotron returns on February 14. A recent update to the game’s files revealed that the iconic weapon will now use Heavy Ammo and has also had its base damage nerfed from 50 down to 28. Multiple other changes also appear to have been made, including a buff to the weapon’s charge damage multiplier, taking it from x3 to x6.
For those not fond of the OG experience, Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 2 is right around the corner. Not much is known about the highly anticipated content update, but a recent leak revealed that the new season is set to begin on February 21, meaning it is now just a little over a week away. While there’s nothing official from Epic Games as of yet, it has been suggested by various leakers that the theme of Chapter 6 Season 2 will be heist-related, but fans will have to wait a little longer to find out exactly what’s in store.
