Tides of Annihilation is an upcoming fantasy game based on Arthurian legend.

Fantasy action-adventure game Tides of Annihilation has been unveiled, and it will be coming to multiple platforms, including PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC at an as yet undisclosed date. Revealed during PlayStation’s February State of Play showcase, Tides of Annihilation will be the debut project of developer and publisher Eclipse Glow Games, an indie studio based in China.
Inspired by Arthurian legend, the single-player, narrative-driven Tides of Annihilation is set in an alternate version of London that has been shattered by invaders from another world and a mysterious fog that twists anything it touches into “something alien and unearthly.” Players take on the role of Gwendolyn, the only human survivor after the cataclysm, who must search for the legendary Grail Shards to uncover the mystery of the fog.
Revealed during the State of Play event on February 12, Tides of Annihilation will be “coming soon” to PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store. Eclipse Glow Games has a team consisting of many industry veterans who have worked on a range of franchises, including Yakuza, For Honor, Assassin’s Creed, Persona, and Prince of Persia. With a project backed by media conglomerate Tencent, the studio has hopes to create a AAA-caliber experience with Tides of Annihilation.
Tides of Annihilation Is Inspired by Arthurian Legend
Players will explore iconic locations throughout London, switching between two distinct versions of the world. The recognizable, modern-day landmarks of the city have been transformed and warped by the fog; echoes of the areas’ medieval past also slip through, complete with mythical creatures to combat.
Gwendolyn won’t go it alone, however, as Eclipse Glow wanted to bring a co-op experience into the single-player game. The protagonist has the ability to manipulate the gray fog and summon two spectral knights to fight at her side. Each serves a specific role, and the player will decide which to use based on their play style and the different battles they encounter. The idea sounds reminiscent of the combat in Ender Lilies and its sequel Ender Magnolia, whose little girl protagonist has the ability to summon a different Homonculus to use in battle depending on her needs.
In addition to Gwendolyn’s companions, Tides of Annihilation will also feature giant knights, “once hailed as noble heroes from Arthurian legend… twisted by the fog into monstruous shadows of their former glory.” These behemoths will play a part in the game’s vertical levels, which are “in the form of gigantic knights,” calling to mind memorable moments like those found in Horizon Zero Dawn or Sony’s Shadow of the Colossus.
