Dark Mass is an upcoming psychological horror game taking place entirely underwater.

Spanish studio Path Games announced Dark Mass, a creepy new horror game that takes place fully underwater. Dark Mass is in development for both PC and consoles.
Founded in 2017, Path Games is a Barcelona-based studio established with the goal of making interactive horror experiences with unique gameplay and immersive settings. The company has so far released one title, a 2022 horror game called Insomnis.
Path Games has now announced its follow-up project in the form of Dark Mass. Like Inomnis, Dark Mass is a psychological horror game that’s played from a first-person perspective and takes place in a haunted manor. However, it attempts to take oppressive atmosphere to a whole different level by submerging its setting underwater. The game’s protagonist, Alice, is a deep-sea diver who discovers a sunken manor following a major seismic event. She soon finds herself trapped in its old walls and is forced to solve ancient rituals in order to escape.
Dark Mass Is Inspired By Real Historical Tortures
The game’s newly premiered reveal trailer offers a brief look at its gameplay, in addition to featuring a few glimpses of its underwater horrors. Although the monsters inhabiting the setting of Dark Mass are obviously fictional, its world is more rooted in reality than it might appear at first. While designing the game, the developers took inspiration from historical torture practices, which will serve as the basis for the macabre rituals that Alice will have to complete over the course of Dark Mass.
Dark Mass Promises a Decently-Sized Campaign With Replay Value
While horror games and psychological horrors in particular tend to be on the shorter end, Path Games is aiming to deliver a decently-sized campaign with Dark Mass. Specifically, the Spanish studio estimates that a single playthrough will take between four and six hours to complete. Players will also get a chance to make choices that will shape the game’s narrative, so Dark Mass is bound to offer a degree of replay value. Some of these choices will possibly be tied to the game’s walkie-talkie system, which Alice will use to communicate with her brother, Reed.
Dark Mass Is Coming in Fall 2026
While Dark Mass is still waiting for a release date, Path Games confirmed that it’s targeting a fall 2026 launch. The upcoming indie title is currently in development for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Between its oppressive atmosphere and gruestome rituals, Dark Mass will potentially appeal to many fans of interactive scares, especially those who enjoy horror games taking place at sea.
