Warner Bros. Financial Struggles Have Reportedly Caused The Cancellation Of Planned Hogwarts Legacy DLC

Game Update Games Gaming News

Warner Bros. has reportedly cancelled Hogwarts Legacy DLC and Definitive Edition due to “an ongoing restructuring” following years of financial troubles.

It’s been a while since Hogwarts Legacy launched, with almost two years having passed since the game’s release. It was a smash hit for Warner Bros., something which it’s found itself in short supply of these days, so you’d naturally assume that there would be some sort of DLC or expansion to capitalize on its success.

According to Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier, that was indeed the case. However, the continued financial struggles for Warner Bros. after a completely disastrous 2024 has now reportedly caused Hogwarts Legacy DLC and a Definitive Edition package to be completely scrapped, despite them being planned for release at some point in 2025.

Hogwarts Legacy DLC And A Definitive Edition Have Reportedly Been Cancelled

NEW: WB Games has canceled a planned Hogwarts Legacy DLC and Definitive Edition, part of an ongoing restructuring at the organization following a dire 2024. The project was not yet announced but Bloomberg reported on it last year. The sequel remains in development. www.bloomberg.com/news/article…

Schreier claims that the DLC and Definitive Edition cancelations were part of “an ongoing restructuring” of the video game unit at Warner Bros. Both projects were also reportedly cancelled as Warner Bros. was worried that there wasn’t enough content in the DLC to justify the asking price. It was reportedly going to be developed by both Avalanche and Rocksteady, and focus on a companion storyline that was cut during development.

It’s a little surprising that Warner Bros. would cancel such a surefire bet, especially with how successful the main game itself was, but it’s worth keeping in mind just how disastrous the past couple of years has been for the company on the gaming front.

For starters, it released Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, which was almost universally hated and will forever be a stain on Rocksteady’s resume. Then we have MultiVersus, which was temporarily shut down due to a lack of players, only to undergo a dramatic relaunch, before promptly getting shut down for good.

Its latest fumble was the cancellation of Wonder Woman, and the resulting closure of developer Monolith Productions. All of these combined will have cost Warner Bros. massively, and now it finds itself in a position where it has very few games on the horizon, and a big black hole in its coffers that it can’t fill.
