Bungie announces a Marathon livestream date for a new gameplay reveal on April 12 at 10AM PT.

Bungie announces a new Marathon livestream date where the studio will finally reveal new gameplay of the upcoming shooter. There remains a ton of mystery surrounding Bungie‘s upcoming shooter, Marathon, which has seemingly experienced its own set of ups and downs throughout its development.
After rumors began swirling over a potential revival as far back as 2022, Bungie officially revealed Marathon at a 2023 PlayStation Showcase with a futuristic announcement trailer. According to Bungie, Marathon is a sci-fi PvP extraction shooter that takes place on Tau Ceti, a planet that fans of the original 1994 should be familiar with. Following that reveal, Bungie largely went silent with updates on the game, leaving fans to wonder what was happening to the game.
Over the past couple of weeks, Bungie has continued to tease news with subtle updates on its social media page and industry insiders have provided a slight glimpse at what fans can expect from Marathon. As it turns out, all the teases have led to an official announcement from Bungie, which is preparing a dedicated livestream event on April 12 to finally reveal gameplay on the Marathon‘s official Twitch channel.

The announcement also came with a short teaser trailer, which depicted an encounter between two runners during a match. One of the Marathon characters, which looks like it could be previously teased as “Stealth”, is gunned down and bleeds out, just as a cybernetic cat appears and curls up next to the body. The other mysterious runner, meanwhile, appears to have been successfully extracted, if the beam of light in the background is any indication.
Either way, this will be the first piece of news fans have gotten since October 2024, when new game director Joe Ziegler gave a much-needed update. Marathon’s development history, if rumors are true, hasn’t been entirely smooth, with numerous internal delays and even a report that the former Bungie director on Marathon was fired after a misconduct investigation. Barrett later filed a wrongful dismissal lawsuit against Bungie, which eventually caught the attention of Sony, who fired back at the claims within the suit by presenting evidence and possibly laying groundwork for a countersuit.
