Nintendo Switch Online adds Sega Genesis games, including Streets of Rage, for Expansion Pack subscribers.

Nintendo Switch Online has added three classic Sega Genesis games — Streets of Rage, Super Thunder Blade, and ESWAT: City Under Siege — to the library of titles available with the Expansion Pack. Fans of retro video games can get access to NES, SNES, and Game Boy favorites with a regular Switch Online subscription, and the Expansion Pack adds many iconic N64, Game Boy Advance, and Sega Genesis games to the selection.
Once the Nintendo Switch 2 launches on June 5, Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers will be able to enjoy Game Cube titles as well. The announcement that the beloved console would be coming to the service was one of the highlights of the April 2 Nintendo Direct Showcase, and the first games on offer will be F-Zero GX, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, and Soulcalibur 2.
In the meantime, gamers will be enjoying regular additions to the catalog and other perks like free upgrades via their Switch Online subscription. On April 10, Streets of Rage, Super Thunder Blade, and ESWAT: City Under Siege became available for Expansion Pack subscribers to check out. These classic Sega Genesis titles offer something for fans of side scrollers, flight sims, and beat ‘em ups.
Games Added to Switch Online + Expansion Pack in April
- ESWAT: City Under Siege
- Streets of Rage
- Super Thunder Blade
Of the three new games, Streets of Rage might be the most recognizable, as its 1991 release marked the beginning of a long-lived and successful franchise that comprises four games, numerous fan projects, comics, and short stories. As recently as 2022, there was even a Streets of Rage feature film and television series in the works by Lionsgate, though there haven’t been any updates on that project in a while. This Switch Online addition is a side-scrolling beat ‘em up that pits former police officers against a crime syndicate that has set up base in the fictional city of Wood Oak.
Another side scroller, this time a platformer, ESWAT: City Under Siege was released in 1990. A port of a popular arcade game of the time, with some new levels and weapons tossed into the mix, ESWAT also puts players in the boots of a police officer on a mission to clean up the streets. But despite the similarities in presentation and setting, this Switch Online newcomer offers a completely different experience to Streets of Rage.
The combat flight simulator Super Thunder Blade also pits players against relentless bad guys, but shakes things up a bit by giving them a helicopter to use as a weapon instead. Released in 1988, the popular game has been ported a few times, to PS2 and PSP in 2007 and Xbox 360 and PS3 in 2009, and fans are excited to see it join the many games available with a Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription.
