Space Marine 2’s new update 7 is here, and it comes with a new boss, weapon, and revamps to some of the Warhammer game’s core systems.

Space Marine 2‘s latest update is the perfect time to step into the gigantic, curb-stomping shoes of an Astartes. There’s a brand new co-op mission, the menacing Tyranid boss, Trygon, and more ways than ever to suit up and take on the hordes. Saber Interactive has been expanding SM2 for some time now, and update 7 is the latest in a long line of phenomenal overhauls taking it from strength to strength.
The headliner in Space Marine 2’s Trygon update is easily the titular Tyranid. You’ll fight the boss as part of an all-new Operation, aptly entitled Exfiltration. Your trio of Astartes is deployed on the outskirts of Avarax, an Imperial Hive City and cramped metropolis that’s potentially home to billions of citizens. Your mission is to extract a rogue Tech-Priest, but the Trygon stands in your way. The gigantic Tyranid can burrow underground and create passageways for its fellow cosmic bugs, meaning you’ll need to think on your abnormally large feet if you want to survive.
You have some new equipment to take on the Warhammer 40k game’s latest threat, though. The Inferno Pistol is available for four classes, while the list of PvE weapons available for each role has been expanded. This means no matter which class you pick, you’ll have loads more guns to choose from.
That’s not all, either, as you can now show your dedication to the Emperor by prestiging your PvE character. Once you reach level 25 you can reset your progress and get one new prestige perk. You can do this up to four times for four perks, with each prestige rank increasing your XP gains by a whopping 10%.
Saber Interactive is also introducing a new class-based matchmaking mode. This means you’ll see fewer players launching into PvE games with the same class as you in an attempt to increase variety. “It is not going to prevent this 100%, there will always be some edge cases,” Saber says. “We will be tweaking and improving the system on our backend as we go.”
Your PvP experience will also improve with the Trygon update. Saber is adding experimental skill-based matchmaking, which should make matches “more fair.” The team says it will be turning it on and off and monitoring the results, and that it will “take a while for it to shape up.”

If you love customizing your Space Marine as much as I do, I’ve got some great news. Not only are there now two new hues to pick from, but you can also recolor both the Bulwark cloth and hands of your Astartes. If you’ve paid for the season pass, you’ll also get the Space Wolves and Imperial Fists cosmetics – because we all know style is as important as justice.
Saber also has a handful of gameplay and balancing tweaks, which you find in the comprehensive patch notes. Even with the studio hard at work on Space Marine 3, SM2 is still going strong. In fact, the developer even assures that “no one is abandoning” the game, with content like classes, operations, and melee weapons still on the way.
Saber Interactive has released the Space Marine 2 Trygon update on all platforms. You can also snag the game at 35% off on Steam until Tuesday April 22, so expect to pay $38.99 / £35.74 before then. Just head here.
