On April 19, Double Fine surprised fans by announcing that the first Psychonauts game would be available for only 89 cents on Steam for a week. The surprising sale is part of the Psychonauts 20th anniversary celebration, and Steam users have until April 26 to buy the franchise’s first entry at a steep, 91% discount.
Created by renowned game developer Tim Schafer and Double Fine Productions, Psychonauts follows the mind-bending adventures of Razputin “Raz” Aquato, a young psychic seeking to join the titular Psychonauts organization as an elite agent. After sneaking into Whispering Rock Psychic Summer Camp, Raz must free the minds of other campers and use his powers of telekinesis to overcome mental obstacles thrown his way. After proving himself as a potential Psychonaut agent, Raz’s story is followed up nearly two decades later in the VR game Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin and the direct sequel, Psychonauts 2.
20 years after Psychonauts first launched on PC and the original Xbox console, gamers can now pick up one of the best dark 3D platformers for a steep discount. As part of Psychonauts‘ 20th anniversary celebration, Double Fine that the first Psychonauts is now discounted by 91%. This discount brings Psychonauts‘ price down to $0.89 until April 26. Double Fine stated that it was the deepest discount that was allowed by Steam. At the time of writing, Psychonauts has an overwhelmingly positive 95% rating on Steam. Psychonauts is also playable on the Steam Deck, though some non-Steam Deck controller icons may still show up. Double Fine thanked fans for all the support shown over the years, and stated that more 20th anniversary content would be shown off on social media starting on Monday, April 21.

However, Double Fine stated that no remakes or teasers of future Psychonauts projects would be talked about during the anniversary. Along with the deep discount on Psychonauts, the 20th anniversary sale also included a 75% discount on Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin and Psychonauts 2, bringing their respective prices down to $4.99 and $14.99. A Psychonauts bundle that includes all three games and five soundtrack albums is also available for $27.28 for the anniversary. With Psychonauts 2 taking 15 to 20 hours to beat, the discounts make both entries highly tempting offers for players to consider.
While Double Fine’s future projects are still a mystery, the Psychonauts franchise remains adored by new and longtime fans. What the future holds for Psychonauts remains to be seen.
