Breath of Fire 4 is now available on GOG for $9.99 with enhanced graphics and modern system compatibility.

Capcom’s Breath of Fire 4 has just been released on GOG via the GOG Preservation Program. This RPG was the fourth entry in Capcom’s popular series, and it was unavailable for modern systems before this release.
Breath of Fire 4 was released for the original PlayStation in 2000, and it received a PC port in 2003. Appearing late in the console’s cycle, Breath of Fire 4 was one of the best PS1 RPGs, achieving both critical and commercial success. The game is set in a land plagued by war, as gamers control a mysterious young warrior called Ryu, who accompanies the Princess Nina as she looks for her sister Elena.
Now, gamers can purchase Breath of Fire 4 from GOG for $9.99, and this new version comes with a few improvements. The game is fully compatible with Windows 10 and 11, comes localized in both English and Japanese, has an improved DirectX renderer, new rendering options, an improved audio engine, and support for all modern controllers, as well as keyboard and mouse. According to GOG, one of the highlights of this new version is “stunning new and improved graphics,” which allow for a higher resolution. Overall, it looks like the ultimate way to play Breath of Fire 4 on modern hardware. The early 2000s had plenty of old RPGs in need of remasters, so it’s great to see this title getting this treatment.
Capcom’s Breath of Fire 4 Is Currently Available on GOG
Breath of Fire 4’s addition to GOG is part of the GOG Preservation Program, which aims to improve the availability of classic titles and offer them to fans without locking them behind any digital rights management (DRM) tools. According to the Video Game History Foundation, 87% of the games released before 2010 are not easily accessible to modern audiences due to them being locked to old hardware or having difficult compatibility with newer PCs, so programs like this are important to connect gamers with the past.
Breath of Fire 4 is just one of the games brought back via the GOG Preservation Program recently. Some other projects which were revitalized via the program include Ultima Underworld 1+2, Heroes of Might and Magic 3, and others. Hopefully, other popular games, such as more entries in the Breath of Fire series could be added to the platform soon, helping gamers to either replay or get in contact with these classic titles for the first time.
