Bungie confirmed a live stream on May 6 to reveal more about The Edge of Fate’s gameplay and changes.

Act 3 for Episode Heresy is in full swing for Destiny 2, and more content is coming further down the line, culminating in the summer release of the newly named The Edge of Fate chapter of the saga. Little is currently known about The Edge of Fate, but Bungie confirmed a live stream will be held on May 6 to reveal more about the new content and what it has to offer. In the meantime, Destiny 2 fans can take a look at the teaser for the live stream on May 6, including a short cinematic of a Warlock traveling through space. Observant fans may walk out with some answers, though, as one element briefly appears on the screen at the end.

It’s not uncommon for Destiny 2 stories and lore books to be carefully crafted in a way that gives Guardians some little secrets or easter eggs to cling onto. The Edge of Fate promises some big changes in terms of gameplay and business model for Destiny 2, and there will be a lot to uncover on May 6, including what this release is bringing to the table. It has long been rumored and theorized that the game would finally leave the solar system after The Final Shape, and a small hint at the end of the teaser for The Edge of Fate seems to confirm the next setting.

Why Destiny 2’s Teased ‘Kepler’ Could Be The Edge of Fate’s Setting

With Bungie stating that the next chapter for Destiny 2 will make key changes to the current formula and expand both on the gameplay and worldbuilding of the series, it only makes sense for The Edge of Fate to be a drastic departure from longtime settings, too. If the teaser for The Edge of Fate is anything to go by, and it most likely is, there is a word that appears on the screen at the end reading “Kepler.”

Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate – What is Kepler?

Considering the warp travel of the Warlock’s spaceship, it’s quite possible that the Kepler referred to in the teaser is the next destination for the franchise, but there are a few options. It could be Kepler-90, a planetary system with a sun that has some characteristics in common with the Sun, as well as eight exoplanets attached to it, ranging from Kepler-90b to Kepler-90i. This could be a good way for Destiny 2‘s Frontiers chapter to move away from the Sol System to something entirely new, yet rooted in the familiar aspects of an 8-planet planetary system.

Alternatively, this could refer to Kepler-186 or other Kepler-named planetary systems, with 186 being important due to Kepler-186f, a planet similar in size to the Earth, which could be habitable. These are real-life Kepler planetary systems that the game could be referring to, but it’s also possible that Bungie is making its own. Destiny 2‘s story and space-magic gameplay with reality-altering aliens do lend themselves to creative approaches, so it’s entirely plausible that an in-game Kepler system only partly draws inspiration from its real-life counterparts.

Even then, it’s interesting to think of the many possibilities a Kepler planetary system would introduce, and given the space travel premise of the teaser, a whole new system seems like the perfect fit for The Edge of Fate. Destiny 2 players will have to wait and see if this is the case, but it seems unlikely that the name Kepler is simply thrown around in the teaser with no meaning. At the very least, it could be a nod to Kepler’s laws of planetary motion from the early 1600s, but the prospect of “Kepler” referring to the new saga’s setting is far more enticing. For now, though, the Rite of the Nine event will likely keep Guardians busy until more is officially announced.
