Microsoft is reportedly working on at least three new Xbox controllers.

A new report from a long-time Microsoft insider claims that the company is currently working on at least three new Xbox controllers. One of them is supposedly a successor to the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2.
Microsoft releases new Xbox controllers on a fairly regular basis. However, most such offerings are variants of existing products rather than entirely new models.
In contrast, the company is currently working on at least three new Xbox controllers. That’s according to industry insider Jez Corden, who said as much during a late February 2025 episode of The Xbox Two Podcast. All three gamepads are currently in the prototype stage of development, Corden claimed, while also suggesting that some of their references can already be found in the latest version of the Xbox Series X operating system.

Microsoft’s Rumored Xbox Controllers
- Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 3
- Mid-range controller code-named “Sebile”
- Entry-level controller, likely without cloud-specific features
One of the three gamepads is supposedly a successor to the ultra-premium Xbox Elite Wireless Series 2 Controller, which originally hit the market back in November 2019, a year ahead of Microsoft’s current console generation. This device is said to offer native support for Xbox Cloud Gaming; instead of connecting to a phone, PC, or console via Bluetooth—and then having that device relay the connection to Microsoft’s servers—the gamepad would communicate directly with the cloud. The viability of such direct Wi-Fi connections was already successfully demonstrated with the Google Stadia controller, and this approach can generally help reduce latency by a few milliseconds, which can be significant for certain types of games, such as competitive shooters.
Another member of the prototype trio is an Xbox controller code-named Sebile, which originally leaked back in September 2023 as part of some poorly redacted FTC documents. Corden confirmed that this device still exists, describing it as a “mid-range” offering. The 2023 Sebile leak suggested that the gamepad would also feature native cloud gaming support, calling the feature “Direct-To-Cloud.” The third prototype controller that Microsoft currently has in the works is an entry-level offering, possibly meant to replace the existing Xbox Wireless Controller range, according to Corden. This gamepad might end up skipping the cloud-specific features of its more expensive counterparts, as per the same source.
It’s presently unclear when exactly these rumored devices might make their way to the market. With all of them still supposedly being in a prototype stage of development, there’s always a chance Microsoft decides against commercializing them. Historically, the company has unveiled new gamepads anywhere from a few weeks to several months before their release.
