Sony Warns That PlayStation Could Be Joining Nintendo And Xbox In Raising Its Console Prices
Sony just shared its quarterly earnings and commented on the state of the company.

Sony‘s chief financial officer has warned that PlayStation may raise its console prices in the near future due to tariffs, just like Xbox did a few weeks ago.
Even though video games have arguably never been better than they are right now (and look to peak when GTA 6 finally launches next year), the industry itself is facing a number of big issues that make its current state bittersweet. The biggest of those problems is that gaming is simply getting far too expensive, with both consoles and games seeing a big price hike.
It all started a few months ago with the reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2, which notably introduced the concept of $80 games with Mario Kart World. That was then followed up with Xbox announcing its own price hike that will impact its future games and all of its consoles and accessories. The only company that hasn’t raised its prices yet is PlayStation, but that looks set to change.
Don’t Be Surprised If PlayStation Raises The Price Of Its Games And Consoles Soon
The Tariffs Are Hitting Everyone, After All

As reported by Insider Gaming, Sony recently shared its quarterly earnings and the current state of the company. That, of course, meant talking about the current tariffs that are causing many gaming products to have their prices raised. Sony chief financial officer Lin Tao noted that the company needs to find around 100 billion yen (or $512 million) to make up for the impact of the tariffs.
To offset the cost of the tariffs, Tao noted that Sony is “thinking about the current available information and looking at the market trend”, and that it might “pass the price” to consumers to make up that 100 billion yen. Sony CEO Hiroki Totoki also commented on the tariffs to say that the PS5’s components are being manufactured in so many areas, and that the location of production needs to be considered in such a “critical situation”.
Note:
Remember when we said that the PS5 Pro is no longer the most expensive console on the market? Yeah, don’t expect that to stay the same for very long.
While that all might sound like a lot of corporate jargon, it essentially means that Sony is aware of the impact that the tariffs could have on console manufacturing and that it’s considering its options for making up the money it might lose. This makes it seem very likely that a price hike is incoming in the near future, either for PS5 games or the console itself.
