Destiny 2: How to Get the Taken Shader Without All Chess Pieces

The Nine are intensely mysterious in their desires, but Guardians are so easily influenced when it comes to cool loot, which is why players are going to want to jump into Destiny 2 to get the free Taken Shader, Umbral Rumble. The Nine have challenged players to complete the chess puzzle in Destiny 2, and it’s far easier than one might think.
All players need to do to get the Taken Shader and the rest of the chess puzzle rewards is follow the steps below, which anyone can do regardless of DLC, allowing for everyone to obtain the free shader, ship, and emblem so long as they bring about their ability to follow.
Note:
Players will have until July 15 to get the Taken Shader.
How to Easily Get 4 Chess Pieces in Destiny 2

To begin, players will need 4 chess pieces. Luckily, there’s a HUB where 4 of these pieces can be collected without the need to explore. Players will want to head to the Last City destination and enter Eris Morn’s Apartment. Once inside, look at the minimap on the left to locate the chess pieces and hold the interaction button to pick them up:
- 1x Pawn is found on the central table.
- 1x Pawn is found by the Heresy Vendor.
- 1x Knight is found in the hallway to Eris’ apartment, up the stairs.
- 1x Bishop is found in the reception, downstairs of Eris’ apartment.
With these 4 chess pieces acquired, head to the Last City destinations tab and select the Unknown Antechamber activity, and make sure that the version of the activity selected is Middlegame.
How to Easily Skip the Chess Step in Destiny 2
Now that players have jumped into the Unknown Antechamber, they will need to set up the chessboard in a very specific way. In order to place chess pieces on the board, players must stand on the glowing plate with the symbol that corresponds to the chosen piece. Once players are on the glowing plate, they can shoot any of the squares on the chessboard to place said piece. It’s best to use a bow to place the chess pieces, as it’s a one-shot weapon that won’t misfire. If players do mess up their shot, then they can head to the left plate to delete the piece and reapply it.
Now that you understand how the chessboard works in Destiny 2, it’s time to place the 2 pawns, 1 knight, and 1 bishop that you acquired from Eris’ flat in the pattern shown above. If done correctly, the chessboard will automatically wipe itself, and players will now have unlimited chess pieces to use to complete the puzzle.
How to Solve the Chess Puzzle for the Taken Shader in Destiny 2
Now that players have unlimited chess pieces thanks to the puzzle solution mentioned before, they can check the image above and copy it exactly to complete their own chessboard. The process might take a few minutes to set up, but just remain calm and focus on one row at a time. For instance, complete the bottom row, which consists of an empty space, another empty space, a Knight, a Bishop, a Knight, a Pawn, a Pawn, a Bishop, and so on. Once all pieces have been placed like in the image above, head to the back of the room where players can interact with an altar to select Offer Your Answer. If done correctly, the podiums will ignite with green fire, and players can head to the front of the room to collect a chest that contains a bunch of epic loot, including the Taken Shader:
Deinterlace (Ship) |
Umbral Rumble (Shader) |
Enigmatology (Emblem) |
Exotic Cipher (x1) |
Ascendant Shards (x3) |
Strange Coins (x25) |
Curio of the Nine (x3) |
