Rumor: Half-Life 3 Announcement ‘Could Be Any Day’ Now
Valve insider hints Half-Life 3 announcement could come “any day.”

Valve insider Tyler McVicker has suggested that Half-Life 3‘s potential announcement “could be any day” now. Half-Life 3 has long been rumored to be in the works under the codename HLX, and this latest development could come as exciting news to fans.
The original Half-Life and its 2004 sequel are two of the most critically acclaimed video games of all time, both pushing the boundaries of the FPS genre at the time of release. However, fans have waited over 20 years for a third iteration to arrive, and expectations are sky-high. For some, anything less than Valve producing another of the best first-person shooters ever would be a disappointment. Others would undoubtedly be happy just to have it see the light of day after all this time.
As reported by TheGamer, Valve insider Tyler McVicker has claimed that datamined HLX files continue to support the theory that Half-Life 3 is in the polishing state of development, although he also points out that “we don’t know when this game is going to be announced. Honest to god, it could be any day. Could be tomorrow, but it could also be next year… Valve is going to decide when it happens.” McVicker specifically mentioned Geoff Keighley’s upcoming Summer Game Fest, saying, “No. I don’t think it’ll be there. Of course, there’s always a possibility it will be. There’s a possibility it’ll be literally any day… Go in with low expectations, and hell, if something shocking happens, that just makes it even better.”
Half-Life 3 is Being Polished, But an Announcement Soon is No Guarantee
According to McVicker, the current work on the game is “the kind of material that you would see done near the tail end of a game development cycle,” making it “an any-day-now thing. But this does not mean this is confirmed for Summer Game Fest or Gamescom Live or any of the things happening over the next few months.” There are undoubtedly still a ton of unknowns when it comes to the long-awaited title. Gamers hoping for a Half-Life 3 announcement this year are still left in limbo, and will have to wait for Valve to deliver some concrete news on that front.
…we don’t know when this game is going to be announced. Honest to god, it could be any day. Could be tomorrow, but it could also be next year.
There are plenty of reasons to believe that Valve is working on Half-Life 3 at the moment. At the start of this year, Half-Life‘s G-Man actor teased fans about the possibility of the game being in development, while more recent rumors have gone on to state that the game is playable from start to finish. 2020’s Half-Life: Alyx was a great sign that Valve hasn’t forgotten about the series just yet, and it seems the third mainline title is closer than ever.
