For the first time ever, publisher Dark Horse Comics has teamed up with Hasbro’s Wizards of the Coast division to bring the fantastical world of Dungeons and Dragons to comic book readers with Dungeons and Dragons: The Fallbacks. This special 4-issue series will begin releasing in October 2025, and Game Rant has an exclusive early preview of the thrilling story and eye-catching covers that await TTRPG and comic book fans in this new Dungeons and Dragons tale.
Hailed by many as one of the best tabletop role-playing games of all time, Dungeons and Dragons has made the leap beyond TTRPGs into the realm of video games and cinema and is now ready to enter the world of comic books with Dungeons and Dragons: The Fallbacks. Following a team of dubious adventurers first introduced in the prose novel Dungeons and Dragons: The Fallbacks: Bound for Ruin, this new comic miniseries offers a fresh story of rivalry and thievery for both longtime fans and first-time readers to dive into.
Dungeons and Dragons: The Fallbacks whisks audiences away to the city of Loudwater, where a party of daring glory-seekers, the titular Fallbacks, attempt to pull off a heist for the ages. The story follows the sly rogue-elf Tess, the loyal human fighter Anson, the bombastic tiefling bard Lark, the devil-may-care dwarf cleric Baldric, and the ever-hungry otyugh companion Uggie, as they face off against kobold thieves and annoying heroes while on their quest for gold. Written by Greg Pak, penciled by Wilton Santos, inked by Edvan Alves, colored by Raul Angulo, and lettered by Nate Piekos, Dungeons and Dragons: The Fallbacks is hailed as “a fast-paced, character-driven adventure full of heart, humor, and heroic mayhem” that will remind readers whey they fell in love with the world of Dungeons and Dragons.
Dungeons and Dragons: The Fallbacks Issue #1
Issue #1 of Dungeons and Dragons: The Fallbacks is set to release via select retailers on October 15, 2025, and audiences can now preorder the first issue at their local comic shops for $4.99. The first of the four issues features multiple stunning covers, with artwork by Marguerite Sauvage, Uzuri, Stephen Segovia, and Dan Panosian. Each issue will also include back cover art by Julie Dillon, and readers who collect all four issues will be able to display the back covers together to create an homage to renowned illustrator J.C. Leyendecker. The Dungeons and Dragons franchise continues to expand its offerings across various forms of media, and Dungeons and Dragons: The Fallbacks is poised to set off on a brand-new journey with veteran and first-time fans in October.
The four-issue miniseries joins a growing lineup of DnD offerings and answers the call for more content from the legendary franchise. Looking to draw in fans of the DnD Critical Role web series, longtime supporters of the iconic TTRPG, and readers ready to join their first campaign, Dungeons and Dragons: The Fallbacks offers an exciting journey to welcome audiences into the realm of heroes and humor.
