The Behemoth confirms a new update for BattleBlock Theater, bringing higher resolution, faster frame rates, and bug fixes.

The 2014 Steam game BattleBlock Theater is getting a brand-new update, as confirmed by developer The Behemoth. BattleBlock Theater was first released in 2013 as an Xbox 360 exclusive before making its way to other platforms. Its Steam release came in 2014, followed by a Mac port in 2015. At the time of this writing, BattleBlock Theater is not playable on any PlayStation or Nintendo consoles.
For those unfamiliar with the game, BattleBlock Theater is a co-op platformer that earned mostly positive reviews at the time of its original release. Professional critics praised the game for its sense of humor, level design, and co-op support. The game was also hugely popular with fans, as Steam users have given it the coveted “Overwhelmingly Positive” overall rating. Now it seems BattleBlock Theater fans will soon have a new reason to return to the game.
Developer The Behemoth recently laid out its plans for its various video games, BattleBlock Theater included. According to the developer’s tweet, BattleBlock Theater is set to receive a “quality of life update” at some point in the near future, though a specific date was not announced. The new BattleBlock Theater update will include higher resolution, faster frame rates, bug fixes, “and more” though fans will have to wait and see what exactly “and more” entails. The update is only coming to the Steam version of the game, so those on Mac and Xbox 360 will be missing out, but those on modern consoles have reason to be excited.
BattleBlock Theater Confirms New Update and Console Ports
Note:
BattleBlock Theater is currently 70% off on Steam, bringing its price down to just $4.49 until July 29.
Besides confirming that a new BattleBlock Theater update is on the way, The Behemoth also confirmed that the game is coming to “modern consoles,” presumably with all the upgrades in the Steam update in tow. Exact platforms weren’t announced, but one can assume that BattleBlock Theater will be coming to Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo platforms. It’s worth pointing out that the Xbox 360 version of BattleBlock Theater is currently playable on modern Xbox consoles through the backward compatibility program, but that version of the game won’t be treated to the big new update.
BattleBlock Theater is one of the best co-op platformers out there, so it’s great to see it getting a second lease on life. And it’s not the only thing fans of The Behemoth games have to be excited about. The Behemoth also confirmed that the Alien Hominid games are coming to PlayStation consoles, a new DLC in the works for Castle Crashers, a Pit People update, and confirmation that the studio is working on its next major project.
