The Xbox Developer Direct 2025 may feature more than one surprise announcement.

The next Xbox Developer Direct may feature “more than one surprise,” according to a well-known Microsoft insider. This prediction is consistent with Microsoft’s track record, which always saw the company showcase more games than what have so far been confirmed for the 2025 edition of the upcoming Xbox event.
The third-ever Xbox Developer Direct is scheduled for January 23. Its announcement was accompanied by a list of three games that will be featured at the show: South of Midnight, Doom: The Dark Ages, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Every member of this trio has previously been confirmed as targeting a 2025 launch, but is still waiting for a concrete release date, which may be announced at the January 23 event.
Windows Central’s Jez Corden has recently claimed that Microsoft will also announce a mystery game at the Xbox Developer Direct 2025. A few days following that prediction, Corden took to Twitter to tease that “more than one surprise” may be on the cards for the upcoming event, without elaborating on the matter.

One Xbox Developer Direct 2025 Surprise Will Reportedly Come From Japan
Regarding the first mystery game that he previously teased, Corden described it as a new installment in a “legendary” Japanese franchise boasting “decades of history.” Square Enix‘s Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest series fit that description, as do numerous Sega IPs. Sega’s potential involvement in the next Xbox Developer Direct wouldn’t be a particularly big surprise, given its increasingly strong relationship with Microsoft. This partnership has already resulted in multiple Sega games being announced at Xbox events in recent history—a trend that may very well continue in 2025.

Multiple Unannounced Games May Theoretically Be Ready to Debut at Xbox Developer Direct 2025
As for what other surprises may be in store for the Xbox Developer Direct 2025, some possibilities seem likelier than others. There’s lately been a lot of chatter about The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion remake, which is reportedly in development at Virtuos and is basically Bethesda’s worst-kept secret at this point. Since that project is believed to have already been in the works for years, it may be ready to make an appearance at the upcoming event.
Some fans are also theorizing that Ninja Gaiden 4, Persona 6, or the much-rumored remake of Final Fantasy 9 could be announced at the Xbox Developer Direct 2025 as well. The January 23 show is scheduled to kick off at 10am PT / 1pm ET / 6pm GMT, and will be live-streamed via both Twitch and YouTube. The event should mark a big day for Xbox Game Pass subscribers, who are likely to learn the release dates of numerous day-one titles that will reach the service in 2025.
