Patapon 3 may be coming to PlayStation Plus Premium.

The PSP-exclusive Patapon 3 could be on its way to PlayStation Plus Premium, according to some newly leaked evidence. Members of the highest PS Plus tier may be able to start playing it as early as February 2025.
Patapon is a series of rhythm-based games developed by Sony’s now-defunct Japan Studio, which was merged with Astro Bot developer Team Asobi and several other SIE divisions in April 2021. The franchise consists of three games, all of which debuted as PSP exclusives between 2007 and 2011. The original Patapon was remastered and ported to the PS4 in August 2017, whereas its sequel followed suit in January 2020.
Although the third and final Patapon game is still confined to the PSP, that may not be the case for much longer. As first spotted by Gematsu, Sony Japan recently pushed out a Patapon 3 update to its servers, suggesting that the PSP classic could be slated for a re-release. The 1.6GB patch materialized on the same day that Sony announced the January 2025 batch of PS Plus Premium games. The update’s changelog lists just one item, “general bug fixes,” which isn’t something that 14-year-old single-player games often receive—unless they are preparing a comeback.

Patapon 3 Could Be Confirmed for PS Plus Premium This Week
Sony usually announces new PS Plus Extra and Premium games on the Wednesday preceding the second or third Tuesday of each month. Based on this pattern, the next wave of additions to the company’s subscription service should be revealed tomorrow, February 12. If Patapon 3 is indeed being remastered for Sony’s home consoles, its PS Plus-exclusive version could be announced on this date. Like all other ports of first-party PSP titles, the rumored Patapon 3 remaster is likely to be available on the latest two generations of PlayStation consoles. This practice will continue until at least January 2026, when PS Plus will stop offering a regular influx of PS4 games.
Patapon Fans Potentially Have Two Games to Look Forward to in 2025
A potential Patapon 3 home console port isn’t the only thing that fans of Japan Studio’s rhythm game series can look forward to this year. A spiritual successor to Patapon—Ratatan—is also on the horizon, being scheduled to hit the market in April 2025. Aside from the PS4 and PS5, Ratatan will also be a day-one release on the Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
If Patapon 3 joins this month’s PS Plus Premium lineup, it should be added to Sony’s subscription service on the third Tuesday of the month, which falls on February 18. Ape Escape 3 has also been rumored to be coming to PS Plus Premium’s classics catalog soon.
