Disney and Sega might be developing a brand-new mobile game together that could release in the near future, according to a new rumor.

Disney and Sega may be collaborating on a new game that might be released on mobile phones in the near future. This could mean that Sega fans longing to see the likes of Sonic the Hedgehog do a crossover with Disney icons like Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck might finally have their wishes come true.
Mobile games made by Sega are nothing out of the ordinary. In fact, Sega is one of the more prolific third-party publishers with a footprint in the mobile gaming landscape. Just recently, the Japanese video game giant released the puzzle game Puyo Puyo Puzzle Pop exclusively for Apple Arcade on iOS. It has also released F2P mobile games like Sonic Dash in the past. In addition to developing brand-new titles for mobile phones, Sega has even made efforts to port some of its games, like Sonic CD, Streets of Rage, and – bizarrely – Alien: Isolation to iOS/Android. Because of all this, a new mobile game in development at Sega isn’t that surprising, but the details behind the rumored title make it a little bit more interesting.
According to a tweet from Midori, a trustworthy Atlus and Sega insider, “Disney and Sega are working together on a brand-new title that will be released on mobile platforms” in 2025. No further details were given on this specific game. However, when asked why Sega was insistent on working on mobile games, Midori responded that it was for “sustainability.” Apparently, mobile games – like the one said to be made in collaboration with Disney – are created “to build future partnerships with important brands.”
Judging from all the information provided by this insider, it appears that Sega wants its franchises to reach a wider audience on as many platforms as possible. “The goal is to have a mobile title and a console title to expand on Sega IPs outside of pillar IPs such as Like a Dragon, Persona, and Sonic,” claims Midori. Mobile games and live service titles are said to be an “important initiative” for the publisher. Even Sega subsidiary Atlus is rumored to have a number of mobile games in development as well in partnership with Netflix, per Midori’s statements.
Sega Wants to Expand Its Non-Pillar Franchises

Assuming all of this is true, then it makes sense why Sega recently acquired Angry Birds creator Rovio for $776 million. With its heavy investments in mobile gaming, it’s understandable that Sega would want the proven expertise of a developer like Rovio under its wing. After all, mobile games have proven to be fairly lucrative, with titles like Monopoly Go! making over $2 billion in only 10 months. With the gaming industry struggling, traditional console game makers are looking toward the mobile market to find more growth.
As for what this Disney and Sega mobile game will be, it’s anyone’s guess. Perhaps it’ll be like Kingdom Hearts, the popular Square Enix/Disney crossover franchise. Or it might be a party game, a kart racer, or even a battle royale like Fortnite. Nonetheless, it’s probably best if fans keep their expectations in check until further details are shared about this rumored Sega game.
