Epic Games introduced a surrender option in Ballistic mode to help players end lopsided matches quickly.

Epic Games has announced that Fortnite‘s Ballistic mode will now give players the option to surrender in the middle of a match, which may help people who feel a round is beyond recovery. Fortnite is currently in the middle of its Galactic Battle mini-season, which has introduced characters like Mace Windu, Emperor Palpatine, and Jar Jar Binks to the game.
In a move that surprised many players, Epic Games also added an AI version of the character Darth Vader to Fortnite. While there were some initial hiccups, like Darth Vader using explicit language, Epic Games seems to have ironed out many of the issues with the new feature. Many players have been posting clips online of their interactions with the Sith Lord, as he will engage in full conversations with fans once he joins their squad.
In a recent post on Twitter, Epic Games announced that players can now “vote to surrender” in order to end a match of Fortnite‘s Ballistic mode quickly. Ballistic is a first-person team-based shooter mode where one group of players act as the attackers while the opposing side acts as the defenders. The fresh game mode entered early access in December 2024, and Epic Games has been steadily adding content to it ever since. Some players have complained about the state of matchmaking in Ballistic, with numerous people claiming that lopsided games ruin an overall positive experience. It would seem that the developers are trying to correct this issue by adding the ability to surrender in the middle of a match.
Fortnite Adds a Surrender Option to Ballistic Mode
In order to successfully surrender to an opposing team in Ballistic, the vote needs to be unanimous. This prevents a small group of players from ending the match early for everyone on their team. Epic Games has also been busy adding new maps to Fortnite‘s Ballistic mode, though they’re not quite finished. Instead, these new locations are called shell maps, and they’re missing some assets people might expect to see from a finished product. The developers have explained that, by releasing shell maps, they can more easily make changes to the game based on player feedback. According to Epic Games, making changes to a fully finished map is much more difficult.
Epic Games has also been busy trying to bring Fortnite back to Apple’s iOS platform. After submitting the game for approval, Epic Games claimed that Apple blocked Fortnite, which resulted in the game being unavailable on iOS devices worldwide. Despite a few recent hiccups, many people are feeling optimistic about the future of Fortnite.
