Some GameStop customers received damaged units due to stapled pre-order receipts.
While many people have been eager to finally get their hands on the Nintendo Switch 2, it would seem that some GameStop customers received damaged units after going through the trouble of pre-ordering the console. With a release date of June 5, the Nintendo Switch 2 has finally been unleashed on the world, which has many fans excited.
Gamers opening up their Nintendo Switch 2 should be prepared to download a patch, as Nintendo recently confirmed that the console requires a day-one update. Apparently, the patch unlocks the ability to actually play games on the console. It would seem that Nintendo locked the ability to play titles behind the patch in order to prevent leaked gameplay footage from users who may have received their units early.

In a recent post on Twitter, Wario64 shared images of a damaged Nintendo Switch 2 screen provided by a GameStop customer. According to the person who bought the console, their local GameStop stapled their pre-order receipt to the front of the system’s box. When the staple pierced the box, it damaged the screen of the unit inside. Oadhan on Twitter claimed that they had the same thing happen to them when they picked up their Nintendo Switch 2 from GameStop. According to Oadhan, it even happened to their friend who was picking up a unit at the same store. Over on Reddit, Pozzo4 claimed to have had the exact same issue, showing off the front of their Nintendo Switch 2 with small scuffs on the screen.
Some GameStop Customers Received Damaged Switch 2 Units
The people who experienced this strange issue have expressed disappointment and frustration with GameStop, as they believe it’s unlikely they’ll be able to get a replacement unit any time soon. Their concerns may not be unfounded, as Nintendo recently sent signs to retailers that let customers know the store is out of stock.
This isn’t the first time GameStop has had issues with Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders. Shortly after the console became available for pre-order, some GameStop customers claimed that their local store was trying to sell them custom bundles. For context, the only official bundle offered by Nintendo includes a copy of Mario Kart World with the Nintendo Switch 2. These customers claimed that GameStop was trying to sell them a custom bundle that included a pre-order for Donkey Kong Bananza and a screen protector. GameStop did state that it was actively investigating the claims and asked any customers who experienced something similar to reach out via DM on Twitter. Despite a few incidents, many people seem to be enjoying their time with the newly-released Nintendo Switch 2.
