Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Sequel Teased by Microsoft
Microsoft CEO hints at potential Indiana Jones sequel after positive reception of The Great Circle.

More Indiana Jones-based titles could potentially be on the way, possibly even a sequel to Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, according to Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer. The executive stated that Microsoft is very happy with how The Great Circle turned out, and that there is “life” left in the Indiana Jones franchise, indicating there is room for a sequel down the line. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is already set to receive a DLC expansion later this year, which will likely also be used as a gauge to see how gamers respond to even more Indy content.
To say Indiana Jones and the Great Circle turned out to be quite a success would be an understatement, with the action/adventure game receiving rave reviews for its visual fidelity, compelling storyline, and satisfying combat. While there has been a long list of Indiana Jones video games to hit store shelves over the years, The Great Circle marks a turning point for the franchise, bringing it to the latest systems using some impressive modern-day technology. While the main story is likely over for many players, it seems like fans can expect more Indiana Jones adventures from Microsoft in the future.
In an interview with Variety, Microsoft CEO Phil Spencer said that the team is “really happy” with how The Great Circle turned out, and that they think there is “life left in that franchise.” Spencer simply left it at that, but it doesn’t take an archeologist to uncover what this might mean for the future of the franchise under Microsoft’s wing. Spencer also expressed his admiration for Machine Games’ work with The Great Circle, saying he is excited about what may be coming next.
Microsoft’s Phil Spencer Teases Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Sequel
This statement echoes what Douglas Reilly, head of Lucasfilm Games, also thinks, with the executive stating it would be “super interesting” to tell more Indiana Jones stories. While these comments may make it seem like an Indiana Jones and the Great Circle 2 is already on the way, Spencer did reiterate that he wants to make sure Microsoft is focusing on its own projects and games as well, saying the company has “a lot of room to tell new stories.”
The Great Circle is set to receive its first DLC expansion this year, titled The Order of the Giants. In addition to new content, The Great Circle also expanded its reach in the console market, dropping for PlayStation 5 on April 16. Aside from mainline story content, players have a wide array of tasks and challenges to complete in The Great Circle, with the game featuring tons of collectibles and items to discover. Regardless of whether Indiana Jones and the Great Circle receives a direct sequel or not, it appears Indiana Jones is in a prime position to further expand into the video game industry.
