The Epic Games Store will reportedly remove Dark and Darker from gamers’ libraries on November 1. It’s rare for platforms to remove games that their users already own, but the decision is likely linked to the legal troubles Dark and Darker has been dealing with.
Released in 2023, Dark and Darker is an extraction-based multiplayer first-person dungeon crawler RPG. The title, which is set in a dark fantasy world and has ten different classes, has been at the center of a legal battle recently. In a lawsuit Nexon aimed at Dark and Darker, the publisher accused developer Ironmace of copyright infringement due to illegally using Nexon’s assets in the game. In recent developments of the case, the courts made Ironmace pay around $5.7 million in damages to Nexon for infringing the company’s “trade secrets,” while dismissing the copyright claims. This happened because the developers allegedly used assets from a game called P3, which was never released, and therefore not subject to copyright infringement claims.
Now, some gamers have received an email from the Epic Games Store warning them that, due to the court decision between Nexon and Ironmace, Dark and Darker will be removed from player libraries on November 1, 2025. After this date, gamers will no longer be able to play the title. Also, effective immediately, gamers will no longer be able to purchase Redstone Shards or the Legendary Status upgrades for the game via the Epic Games Store. Anyone who purchased the Legendary Status update will get a refund using their original payment method or, if it’s impossible to do so, receive it via their Epic account balance. However, Epic said it’s unable to issue refunds for Redstone Shards.
Epic Games Store Is Removing Dark and Darker From Players’ Libraries
hile games being removed from libraries is a fairly rare event, this outcome is not entirely unexpected when considering previous developments related to the game. Back in March, Dark and Darker was delisted from the Epic Games Store.
What will likely make this removal sting even more for gamers is that while Dark and Darker is a F2P game, it has a paid expansion. Dark and Darker – Legendary Status was offered as a free game on the Epic Games Store in December 2024, so it’s likely that thousands of users will have it in their libraries.
At the moment, it’s unknown if the Steam version of Dark and Darker will be removed from players’ libraries, but it’s not unlikely. Soon after the EGS, Steam also removed Dark and Darker from sale earlier this year, which is a good indication that both platforms are trying to distance themselves from the legal issues surrounding the game.
