Capcom has officially teased Resident Evil 9.

Capcom has seemingly teased fans about the yet-to-be-announced Resident Evil 9. Resident Evil remains one of Capcom’s best-selling video game franchises, and so it’s inevitable that Resident Evil 9 will eventually see the light of day. There is currently no new Resident Evil game for fans to look forward to at the time of this writing, but rumors persist that Capcom has multiple games in the works.
Besides Resident Evil 9, rumor has it that Capcom is working on remakes of Resident Evil Zero and Resident Evil Code: Veronica. Both projects have been requested by fans, the Code: Veronica remake especially, so hopefully the wait to actually see them is nearly at an end. In the meantime, it seems Resident Evil 9 may be next in line, as Capcom has now teased the game for the first time.
Capcom recently released a new video celebrating the Resident Evil 4 remake hitting 10 million units sold, establishing itself as the series’ fastest-selling game in the process. The video features Resident Evil 4‘s infected villagers wearing party hats, but the important bit is at the very end. The camera shows a sign in the village that, if looked at sideways, is very clearly “IX,” the Roman numeral for 9. The song playing over the video also says “Keep your eyes on the road ahead and don’t ever look back.” While there is a chance this was a coincidence, the far more likely scenario is that this is Capcom finally teasing Resident Evil 9.
Capcom Teases Resident Evil 9 in New RE4 Video
There have been all kinds of conflicting rumors about Resident Evil 9 and what exactly it will entail. Some have claimed that Resident Evil 9 will feature fan-favorite protagonists like Jill Valentine and Leon S. Kennedy, while more reputable leakers have pushed back against those claims. Others have said that Resident Evil 9 will be open world, and that it’s being looked at as the next major evolution of the long-running survival-horror franchise.
If that’s true, then Capcom choosing to tease Resident Evil 9 in an RE4 remake video makes a lot of sense. Resident Evil 4 marked the franchise’s first major shift, introducing the over-the-shoulder camera that is still used by many Resident Evil games to this day. Resident Evil 7‘s first-person view and greater focus on pure horror was the next evolution, and so one has to wonder what RE9 will do to push the franchise forward again. It’s believed that Resident Evil 9 will be revealed by the end of the year, so hopefully fans don’t have to wait too much longer for more information on that front.
